It was highly anticipated, it's finally here. The Lumix FZ300 leaves the classic curves of the FZ200 and borrows her big brother FZ1000 very angular design. If the responsibility of everyone to do his own aesthetic opinion, impossible not to agree with the excellent grip, very gripping handle, virtually flawless finish. Despite the slight overweight, the FZ300 is very balanced in hand, reassuring and done quickly forget the time not so long ago when the bridges were the poor relation with APN, all too often, a finishing large plastic toy. It was in any case at least make it to one of the FZ300 - too -. Few bridges Tropic market for maniacs grip and customization, it lacks almost nothing Lumix FZ300 apart graduation focal length on the lens barrel: dual zoom control (with zooming step-by-step or continuous), double adjustment knobs, switch AFS / AFC / MC with focus peaking almost red, finally! - Spherical screen and touch 1 040 000 points (the same as the Lumix G-7), many fast access Q.Menu as always very complete and customizable.
A grip as we would believe almost an expert on housing, to the point to ask why there is no physical aperture ring even, and it's a shame, a programmable lens ring. Small however criticized for the use of two wheels in PASM mode, since both have the same function. Not possible, for example M mode, assign the speed to one and openness to the other. Clicking Fn2 simultaneously, these two knobs to adjust the sensitivity and white balance, but this is also customizable. For a bridge, OLED viewfinder 1 440 000 points is of excellent quality, flicker, with good brightness and for eyeglass wearers eyepoint. Only the Sony RX10 II offers a more comfortable viewfinder, but the bill is then almost tripled. By going to Menu> Settings Personal> Settings button> Touch Pad AF, it is possible to activate the function to change the focus point by touching the screen while maintaining the eye in the viewfinder. One option very effective and useful when, zoom background, you do not want to lose your subject in the viewfinder.
Bridges to f / 2.8 constant are rare, too rare. Apart from Sony RX10 / RX10 II and Olympus Stylus 1 / 1s Stylus, sensor respectively 1 "4x zoom and sensor 1 / 1.7" 10.7x zoom, there was little that the Panasonic Lumix FZ200 for those seeking both high amplitude (24x) and f / 2.8 aperture. But that was before the Lumix FZ300 finally rears its lens. The basic formula has not changed, but the newcomer brings 4K video, photo 4K, stabilization and 5 axis tropicalization. What transform a bridge already very popular in universal APN?
BSI CMOS 12MP 1 / 2.3 "42 Megapixel / cm

24x zoom 25-600mm f / 2.8 BSI CMOS sensor 1 / 2.3 "12MP, 5-axis stabilization, tropicalization, new processor, autofocus DFD inherited the Lumix GH4, Video and Photo 4K swivel screen and touch, wide viewfinder OLED, Wi-Fi, highly customizable, the Lumix FZ300 concentrated in a very angular frame a larger pile than its predecessor, all newly developed by Panasonic technologies, setting the bar high for all other bridges.
With zoom lenses of high amplitude, especially when the brightness involves some cumbersome lenses, it still hangs doubts about reactivity. Fortunately, and no real surprise, Panasonic and DFD technology sweep of a processor setbacks fears you may have.

The Lumix FZ200 has dominated the head and shoulders. Note the beautiful ignition time flirting with the second; a great performance from the FZ300. For the rest, although the FZ200 was far from complaining and always rivals the best recent bridges, is dominated in all situations that we consider, as the FZ300 is almost always twice as bright. The strongest growth is to focus and trigger wide-angle which is almost instantaneous. In low light hand, the FZ300 also consistently better than the Olympus Stylus 1s even with the ignition, despite the magnitude two and a half times its zoom. Côté burst, the FZ300 impresses just as much. JPG, with LiveView (LVL modes and LVM), check in is at infinity, or until filling of the memory card or battery or abandonment of the photographer. At 6 fps in LV M, we threw in the towel at the end of 1000 images after holding the shutter button down for three minutes. A scenario that is unlikely to happen to you in real conditions. JPG JPG H and HS, the rates are respectively 10 i / s and 64 i / s, on 60 successive views. RAW + JPG, by cons, the Lumix FZ300 is a little less flamboyant but everything is relative: LVL 2 i / s over 30 frames in LVMM 5.8 i / s over 21 views and 11.1 H i / s views on 18 "only." Photo mode 4K, well known from the Lumix G-7 is comparable to a burst at 30 frames per second, each image making 8MP. Unlike a 4K video, you can adjust the aperture, shutter speed and sensitivity to his convenience. Combined with the fact that the recording starts one second before triggering, this mode is ideal for photographers fond of rapid and unpredictable actions.
QUALITY IMAGE 4/5
With its hybrid expert Lumix GX8 , Panasonic showed a nice progression in terms of definition, from 16 megapixels to 20.3 megapixels and thereby doing the gap between the micro housings 4/3 and APS-counterparts C or more. Regarding the camera fixed lens (compact, experts and bridges) on the other hand, is more measured Osaka and performs well, since last year, a coaster. The Lumix expert LX100 must therefore be content despite its 12MP sensor 4/3 "when the superzoom Lumix TZ70 comes with 12.1MP against 18MP for the TZ60. Well, well, they have a thing with 12MP, since this is exactly the definition of BSI CMOS sensor 1 / 2.3 "of the FZ300, which thus maintains the status quo with respect to the FZ200. Similarly to the objective, which is the same 25-600mm f / 2.8 as before. The processor is however new and now allows a maximum sensitivity of ISO 6400 (against 3200 ISO). Between the two generations, the gain is subtle, but present. JPG, it is mostly flat areas of color who benefit the most visible improvements, with much less noise and grain, the FZ300, will clearly appears that from ISO 800. Unable to strictly compare the color rendering, since between the two cases the laboratory lighting has changed, but it still seems that the FZ200 pulled over to the cyan and magenta. Regarding the fine, if 12MP on such a small sensor can not work miracles, the FZ300 nevertheless clearly takes the ascendancy over his elder.

Having a big bright zoom is good, you can use the full aperture throughout the focal range is better. The FZ300 remains totally usable at f / 2.8 25 mm to 300 mm, but beyond, optics becomes very soft, regardless of the opening. Which reminds us that we are on a small sensor bridge and not a professional zoom sumptuous that would cost you twenty times more. The technology has its limits. It will not have escaped anyone's physical and technical similarities between the FZ300 and FZ1000 . The latter, with its more modest zoom (24-400mm f / 2.8-4) and its larger sensor (BSI CMOS Type 1 "20.1 MP) offers more defined images, detailed and, in short, of better quality. that's the only advantage the big brother because, versatility and side stabilization on 5 axes (also very effective), the Lumix FZ300 will be better for those seeking a universal camera, and ready to take everywhere for all situations. It will just avoid too large prints, and we're talking about prints in 60x45 cm and beyond. compared to a Olympux Stylus 1s, technologically (BSI CMOS sensor 1 / 1.7 "12MP) and fiscally closer, the Lumix FZ300 is on a par in terms of image sharpness but takes the ascendancy when sensitivity beyond 800 ISO, despite its smaller sensor. This is however still not enough to get 5 stars in image quality.
If there is a significant thing with the Panasonic camera filming in 4K is that they do not impose the use of SDXC memory cards to benefit from the 4K via an "original" size - say hello to XAVC- S from Sony. With the Lumix FZ300, a single SDHC UHS-I - it does not support the UHS-II but can play UHS-II cards - enough, provided it is sufficiently fast. So filmerez either AVCHD Full HD (50p, 50i, 25p, 24p) or MP4 Full HD (50p, 25p) and of course to MP4 4K (25p or 24p, both at 100 Mb / s). Note that only the record in 4K allows video to benefit from the maximum wide-angle recording in Full HD also reframes. Only PAL is available and not NTSC. Also note that, in our countries, the Lumix FZ300 is subject to the limitation of 29 minutes of recording and 59 seconds in sequence. Not surprisingly, the picture quality is very good, as the sound; pity there is no headphone jack. 5-axis stabilization works miracles and prevents judder, even in strong zoom while filming. According PASM selected, it is possible to change the speed, aperture, sensitivity, exposure compensation, while filming. It is also possible to switch on the fly, in manual focus with focus peaking and zebras. It is not possible against by taking a photo during video recording.
A zoom f / 2.8 constant on a small sensor: what for?
Since the advent of forums and image sharing sites, openness is gradually essentially become synonymous with shallow depth of field. Photographically speaking, it is true, just as it is true that a small sensor limits the possibilities for shallow depth of field. So why do f / 2.8, if it is not to play with the bokeh? Simply because originally, a large opening allows especially high brightness, which avoids too sensitivity up area where small sensors are still lagging behind.
24x zoom 25-600 mm f / 2.8 5-axis stabilized.
Spherical swivel screen and tactile.
Viewfinder defined, bright and comfortable.
4K and 4K video picture.
Wide possibilities for customization.
Supplied with a charger.
No headphone jack.
No programmable lens ring.
No graduation on the focal lens.
Sometimes menus a bit complex.
With its Lumix FZ300, Panasonic will not disappoint those who expect a multipurpose bridge, bright, equipped with a nice zoom range. It goes fast, it is very handy, it shoots in 4K, it resists rain and dust and, in some ways can even impersonate an expert housing. If the congestion is not a problem, this is a very good candidate for universal APN.
